For over twenty-five years, Andover Coated Products, Inc. has manufactured an array of quality tapes and bandages for the sports medicine industry. Athletic trainers, coaches and athletes are using these products for maximum protection and support before and after injury.

In an effort to continue to bring innovative products and applications to sports medicine, Andover has joined forces with Ron O’Neil to lead our Educational and Research & Development efforts in the Sports Medicine Market.

Ron is a graduate of Ball State University and has been a certified athletic trainer for 32 years. In 1996 he was presented the NATA 25 Year Award.

Ron’s career started as assistant athletic trainer at Northwestern University where he served 4 years before moving to the NFL. His tenure in the NFL has been 29 years - of that, 11 years with the Philadelphia Eagles as an Assistant Athletic Trainer and 18 years with the New England Patriots as Head Athletic Trainer.

During Ron’s NFL career, he served on the PFATS Executive Committee and while with the Patriots was presented the 1997 NFL Athletic Training Staff of the Year Award.

Ron O’Neil was inducted into the Ball State University Athletic Training Wall of Fame in 2000 and has had 4 NFL Super Bowl experiences and 1 World Championship.

We look forward to the many years of experience and expertise Ron will bring to Andover - Enabling us to focus on bringing new products and concepts to the athletic training community through Imagination and Creativity.


Ankle and Lower Leg - Powerflex Taping System
(approximate presentation time 1 hour)

Taping methods demonstrated can be used for basic ankle injury prevention, ankle and lower leg post injury stability, and various post injury situations that require combined special taping and brace application. These techniques will include multiple ways to provide ankle injury prevention and post injury protection for inversion, eversion, and high ankle sprains, achilles tendinitis, and gastrocnemius/musculotendinous strain.

Ten techniques can be demonstrated utilizing the combination of Powerflex and trainer white or elastic tape to maximize the strength and integrity of each application.

  1. Regular or basic preventive ankle: A demonstration of Powerflex and trainers tape
  2. Preventive ankle variation: A demonstration of Powerflex w/stirrups and Powerflex
  3. Preventive ankle variation: A demonstration of Powerflex w/stirrups and elastic tape
  4. Preventive ankle variation: A demonstration of Powerflex w/figure 8’s - heel locks
  5. Preventive ankle variation: A demonstration of Powerflex shoe spatting
  6. Post injury Inversion/Eversion ankle variation: A demonstration of Powerflex w/moleskin stirrups and trainers tape
  7. Post injury Inversion/Eversion ankle variation: A demonstration of Powerflex, trainers tape, moleskin, and custom bracing
  8. Post injury High ankle variation: A demonstration of Powerflex, trainers tape, elastic tape, moleskin, and custom bracing
  9. Post injury Achilles tendon and ankle combination: A demonstration of Powerflex, elastic tape, trainers tape and custom bracing
  10. Post injury Gastrocnemius and ankle combination: A demonstration of Powerflex, elastic tape and trainers tape, and custom bracing

Knee - Post Injury Taping
(approximate presentation time 1/2 hour)

Taping methods demonstrated can be used to support and provide stability after knee ligament sprains. These techniques will include basic fundamentals and advanced modification to provide protection for collateral ligaments, anterior cruciate ligament, and hyperextension injury. All knee taping techniques can be used in combination with custom bracing (recommended) or non-custom bracing products (dependent on stability requirement). Four techniques can be demonstrated utilizing the combination of Powerflex and trainer white or elastic tape to maximize the strength and integrity of each application.

Upper Extremity - Powerflex Taping System
(approximate presentation time 1/2 hour)

Taping methods demonstrated can be used for basic wrist, hand, and thumb injury prevention, shoulder and elbow post injury stability, and various post injury situations that require combined special taping and brace application. These techniques will include multiple ways to provide post injury support and stability for sprain, subluxation, and dislocation to upper extremity body parts. Seven techniques can be demonstrated utilizing the combination of Powerflex and trainer white tape, elastic tape, or moleskin to maximize the strength and integrity of each application.

  1. Regular or basic preventive wrist/hand/thumb (2 techniques): A demonstration of Powerflex and trainers tape or elastic tape
  2. Post injury Wrist variation: A demonstration of Powerflex and trainers tape or elastic tape with custom bracing
  3. Post injury Thumb variation: A demonstration of Powerflex and trainers tape or elastic tape with custom bracing
  4. Post injury Shoulder: A demonstration of Powerflex, elastic tape and custom bracing
  5. Post injury Elbow: A demonstration of Powerflex and trainers tape or elastic tape
  6. Post injury Elbow variation: A demonstration of Powerflex, elastic tape and custom bracing

Hamstring and Quadriceps - Special Post Injury Taping
(approximate presentation time 1/2 hour)

Taping methods demonstrated can be used for certain hamstring and quadriceps muscle strain post injury situations. These techniques can provide support and range of motion control when athlete returns to full activity. Three techniques can be demonstrated utilizing the combination of Powerflex and elastic tape to maximize the strength and integrity of each application.

  1. Post injury Mid Hamstring: A demonstration of Powerflex and elastic tape
  2. Post injury Distal Hamstring: A demonstration of Powerflex and elastic tape
  3. Post injury Quadriceps/Rectus Femoris: A demonstration of Powerflex and elastic tape

Powerflex Auxiliary Applications
(approximate presentation time 45 minutes)

  1. Post Injury Wrapping for Support and Compression: Joints and Muscles
    (Joints)
    • Shoulder
    • Elbow, Wrist/Hand, and Thumbs/Fingers (off-on-repeat compression)
    • Knee, Ankle, and Foot/Great Toe
    (Muscles)
    • Groin/Hip Flexor
    • Quadriceps/Hamstring
    • Lower Leg
  2. Easy application to securely hold lateral knee braces, rib pads, hip pointer pads, upper arm/elbow pads, knee/thigh/shin pads, and wrist/hand/finger pads and splints.
  3. Blood spill taping and wound care.
  4. Post I.V. Compression.
