In 1998 the FDA reported 29 deaths due to latex allergies. That same year, realizing the importance and need for a latex-free bandage, Andover Coated Products introduced its first latex-free cohesive bandage: CoFlex NL.

In September of 1998, the FDA demanded that all products with latex be labeled in bold letters with the following information, "Caution: This Product Contains Natural Rubber Latex Which May Cause Allergic Reactions."
